And a walk around the garden shows me all the things I didn't do this fall. I need to pull and compost the downed iris leaves, trim out the old columbine foliage, and generally finish the de-bugging or bug-preventive type maintainance.
I also should pile a bit of shredded leaves around my minature roses. They might not need the protection, but they will appreciate it all the same.
We rolled up the hose reel today, one of those plastic jobbies that really takes two people to load the hose on neatly. I tossed an old hose that had been kinked and inflexible all summer, so it was no surprise that I couldn't get it to roll up now. Out to the curb. Neighbor Ed gave me a new hose this year, before he moved, so I have the coverage for the lawn. Out with the old.
And we never did burlap the Deutzia this year. It is the third winter for these plants. The first winter we didn't burlap, and were dissapointed at the slim flower show. Last year we protected them, and they thanked us with lovely flowers. I guess this spring we will get a few flowers, anyway.
You might be thawing, but we have below zero windchills here this morning :)

Which means that cold weather is on it's way - you are ahead of me on the weather track.
We actually woke up to a scattering of snow and frost today. (It was supposed to be up to 3 inches. Ha ha ha.)
I wish it would snow some more. I am already tired of the bleak grey. sigh.
