The houses on either side of us are vacant right now. On the one side is the place that is hosting the Quail family. On the other is a stunning example of this plant: Proboscidea althaeifolia. The flowers next door have a washed-out, creamy linen kind of look to them. The plant in the link is VERY yellow in comparison.
Two things that the linked site doesn't mention:
1) This is a heliotropic plant. When I go to work in the morning, it's leaning east. When I come home, it's facing my car park.
2) This is a FUNKY plant. As in, I can't even describe the odd odor that comes off it's leaves in the sun. Old sweatsocks? No. Unwashed dog? Nope. But it's decidedly funky. Not one to plant under a window!
I have a bunch of photos on my camera, but I haven't loaded Photoshop on this machine. Uh. Too much to do on weekends, not enough energy the rest of the week.
